Save The Planet, I Mean Plants

Back to the gardening issue (first the house, now the yard.  Am I going to lose my loyal readers?  Are you bored yet?).  While visiting Sky Nursery last week I mentioned that our yard is overgrown with something called Salal and we wanted to get rid of it.  Think vinca ground cover but with huge roots and it is covering our whole back yard.  The employee mentioned that this is a native WA plant and that we should contact Plant Amnesty and see if they want it.  Plant what?  But hey, they'll come and get it and we won't have to rip it out so I gave it a shot.  A very nice lady returned my call and said that we could put our Salal up on their plant adoption website and if anyone wants it they can contact me.  I said okay and I'm really glad she couldn't see me giggle while I gave her my information.  Lo and behold I had a message from Ruth who wanted some of my Salal.  She came by yesterday, dug up some roots and took them away.  It was really hard to see it go but knowing it is going to a good home made the transition easier (smirk).

Only in Seattle I tell ya.  Only in Seattle.

I'm going to pass this along to Jayne, then maybe that'll dissuade her from the Northwest. Hippies! ;) Pretty unique program.
