Makeover Madness

We've got a lot of changes happening around here, namely what I like to call makeover madness. These last few years that I haven't been able to run or do anything major physically due to my back and hip injury which has taken it's toll, not to mention I turned the big 31 this year and that definitely doesn't help. Now I that my back and hips feel great (after lots of physical therapy and work) I have a new injury. I was at the YMCA doing some lunges in the weight area, it's the only spot that has a mirror and let's face it, I work harder in front of one because I want to tighten up what I see! While doing a back lunge with my left leg an idiot guy (I could use harsher words) dropped a 40 lb. weight about ten feet from me. It rolled and bounced over my back leg and twisted me around so I landed on my bum. I tried really hard not to cry while the guy just stood there wondering what to do. I walked it off and thought I was fine but since then (January) when I run I get shooting pains up the front of that leg. I'm training for a 10k, which I don't think is going to happen now, so I figured I should go back to my physical therapist. Tendonitis. Sweet. Thank you dumb guy from the gym. I'm having a hard time with this...things seem to be getting worse, not better. Anyhoo, these little tidbits have sidelined me for a while but a few weeks ago I decided I've had it with the extra pounds and have headed up a three pronged attack on the poundage:

1. I enter EVERYTHING I eat into a website called fitday.com. Love it. It's free and it helps me be mindful of my eating. Do I really want to enter in the potato chip I stole from my kids' plate? Not really, so I just won't eat it! The mojo is coming back people.

2. I have tried a few new exercise videos I like for the days I can't get to the gym. First of all, my friend Rebecca and I talk all the time about how we want Jillian from the Biggest Loser to kick our you-know-whats. So why not buy her video right? I got her 30 day shred video with 3 twenty minute workouts. They kill me. I also have the two videos from Tracy Anderson, Gwyneth's trainer. The dance cardio one is KILLER and I only do it when I feel masochistic. Her mat dvd is also really difficult but is supposed to make me teeny tiny like a dancer. I was a dancer and was never "teeny tiny" but what the hell, I'll give it a shot.

3. Mix it up. I've lost 6 lbs. in 6 weeks. My husband has lost 5 lbs. in 2 weeks. Say wha? All you ladies know what I'm talking about. Men can lose five lbs. by skipping lunch. I work out 5 days a week, eat 1600 calories a day and lose 1 lb. a week. Sigh. So I've hit a plateau and am FRUSTRATED. Haven't lost a lb. in a week and realize my body adapts quickly to the changes I make so I need to constantly mix it up. My doctor says my body likes where it is but I say I DON'T and I'm in charge here. From now I am changing my eating and exercise routines every 3 weeks.

There you have it. I've outed myself so I can't fall off the bandwagon now. Cheer me on here. I want to head into the rest of my 30's looking just plain good. Not "you look good for having 3 kids" but just good. Know what I mean? If my hottie mother-in-law (don't be offended I called you a hottie!) can do it at her age and after 5 kids, so can I!

Now that you are bored to tears with my weightloss woes, let's move onto something fun. I'm going to give you a few songs that keep me motivated during my workouts and maybe you'll like them too!

White Stripes- Seven Nation Army
Aaja Soniya- The title is really long and let's suffice it to say it's a Bollywood tune
Jimi Hendrix- All Along The Watchtower
Cake- The Distance
Mary J.- Work That
Dave Matthews Band- Two Step
Weezer- Say It Ain't So
Feist- My Moon My Man
Jamiroquai-Little L
Beyonce- If I Were A Boy
Madonna- Hung Up
Eurythmics-Here Comes The Rain Again
Jay-Z- Hard Knock Life (clean version)
Cyndi Lauper- Girls Just Want To Have Fun (let's face it, it's true)
Will Smith- Get Jiggy Wit It (#1 tune at our wedding reception, it was awesome)
Rhianna- Disturbia
Kylie Minogue- Can't Get You Out Of My Head

Happy listening!!

xoxo

hey cher
have you ever heard of cross fit? It is a website that publishes one workout everyday. It is a principle work out regimen that is not a specialized towards a specific person, athlete or job. You can adapt it to your own ability. It gives you great ideas on new ways to mix it up... and kick your butt. Videos of exercises are helpful and motivating. http://www.crossfit.com/ beware... the dudes on here are intense. have fun

Hey girl. I'm going to call you ... we should set goals together. I feel like my body is falling apart and I've had those last few pregnancy pounds to lose for months now. Annnnyway, I'm finally back at the gym (this week, wahoo!) and am ready to feel healthy and strong again. Let's help each other, okay?

I recognize so few of the groups you listed. But there is Jimi. Well done! No Beatles??

Hope you are making progress with your recovery.

Cheering you on! It sucks that it is not as easy for women as it is for men. I have to check out the website you posted to track your meals.

Hi there - I've never commented on your blog before, but I thought I'd go ahead and de-lurk today. I'm Christy and I love your blog!

I am so thrilled that you posted that food site - I'm logging on today. What a great idea! I've been 'shredding it' too - and those workouts are killer. I might get those others you mentioned just to mix it up too. I need some variety. I also joined weight watchers and think this program rocks - you might want to look into it too - it might help. Anyway, good luck too!

The thirties are killer on the body, totally threw all I've known my whole life for a loop. I'm going to have a look at that site you posted about. So sorry about the tendonitis!
