Coco Chanel once said that"nature gives you the face you have at 20, but it is up to you to merit the face you have at 50". That said, I'm a firm believer in good genes, good skincare and no botox (seriously? A NEEDLE in my face?). After taking a quiz in the latest BHG to determine my "skincare personality" it turns out I'm quite low maintenance (did you hear that honey?). Fine lines and wrinkles a sign of a life well lived? Yes. No more than a minute or two spent on daily skincare? Double yes. How much am I willing to spend on my skincare routine ($100 per year, month, or week)? Um, that's an easy one, as in I would prefer to spend LESS THAN a $100 per year.
Listen, I want to look good for my age just like the next girl but heaven's to betsy, $100 per week? Do I have Gwyneth Paltrow's budget?
Luckily the article also gave me some tips for effective but not fussy skincare. Start with a nonfoaming cleanser followed by an antioxidant serum (to prevent free radical damage, although I'm not sure what that is). Finish up with an SPF moisterizer. At night, stick with the same routine but switch from an SPF moisterizer to a regular one and maybe add an exfoliating cleanser to get rid of dead skin. End with a retinol serum to stimulate collagen and you're all set.
Not to be a product pusher but one of the questions in the quiz asked about whether I care about using drugstore brands or expensive ones. I opted for drugstore brands if possible (we're in a recession people) so here are a few options: Cetaphil (that's for you Reb) skin cleanser, Aveeno Positively Radiant Triple Boosting Serum and St. Ives Mineral Moisterizer SPF 15 for your daytime routine. At night use Biore Detoxifying Daily Scrub and RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Serum.
I'm going to try it out. I'd like people to keep thinking I'm in my 20's like a gentleman did the other day. He may have meant late 20's and that's not to far off since I will be 31 next month but still! I'll take what I can get!
So here's to all you low maintenance gals out there, give these products a whirl!
