I think this is becoming the theme of my blog for now but since I am especially passionate about simplifying life right now, I'm going to run with it!
Here is another wonderful article from the Seattle Times that got me thinking about the frivolty of many of our holidays. I'm totally rethinking things like store-bought decorations (although I saw the most darling felt Christmas decorations at Ikea the other day...I was SOOOO close to picking up a few...) and all the waste that comes along with them. Take a second and read the article and tell me what you think? Do you think we can really shake things up this Fall/Winter and do things differently? Is it okay to say no to what our culture propagates? I'm convinced the answer is yes. Moms have a lot of power, let's use it! (Okay. Dad's too.)
My sister Steph just posted on our theme for Christmas and I also love the other idea in the post! Also, my in-laws are giving everyone "preparedness" gifts for Christmas this year. We've asked for a generator, others are going for food storage. In exchange, for a gift for them, they've asked everyone to memorize something and recite it during the holiday visit. All of Jon's family are going to be here this year!

Hi-
I found your blog when I was googling food storage and yours came up since you mentioned it in your post.
Anyway, I think it's great that your parents will be giving food storage/emergency prep items for gifts this year. My friend and I have a food storage / emergency prep blog, so we love that kind of thing! In fact, next Wednesday we'll be posting a "gift guide" with ideas for gift-giving that have to do with these topics. Feel free to check it out!
Anyway, great post, and thanks for linking that article.

I loved that article. I've been thinking along the same lines this Halloween. Anya's costume this year is just made from our dress-ups collection!
Now I'll just have to think of something fun to give out next year instead of candy!
Thanks for the link!
